Dating from the 17th Century, the cathedral is a combination of Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical styles (work commenced in 1695 and was completed in 1778). It stands upon the site of the primitive grand mosque of Jerez and the old Salvador church. The bell tower stands separate from the main building and was possibly built on top of the minaret of the old mosque. The rectangular building consists of five naves integrated into the structure of a Latin cross. As the figurehead of the Asidonia-Jerez Diocese it has become the epicentre of all the religious celebrations which take place here in the city.

Su construcción data del siglo XVII aunando los estilos gótico, barroco y neoclásico (se inicia en 1695 y termina en 1778). Se alza sobre la primitiva mezquita mayor de Jerez y la antigua iglesia del Salvador. La torre campanario se encuentra en el exterior y posiblemente fuera construida sobre el minarete de la mezquita. El templo rectangular tiene cinco naves integrando en su espacio la estructura de cruz latina. Asimismo, es el templo cabecera de la Diócesis Asidonense-Jerezana y por tanto epicentro de las celebraciones religiosas de la ciudad.
